Very little — in the UK the words are used for the same garment. Both are long-sleeved all-in-ones, usually with enclosed feet.
What is the difference between a romper and a sleepsuit?
A romper is generally footless and made for daytime, often short-sleeved or short-legged. A sleepsuit covers the feet and is built for sleeping and cooler days.
Is a baby sleepsuit better with a zip or poppers?
Both have their place. A two-way zip is quicker and opens from the bottom for a change. Poppers lie flatter under a sleeping bag and give more control over how much is undone. Most people keep both.
How many sleepsuits does a newborn need?
Seven to ten in the smallest sizes is a realistic starting point. The number needed eases off gradually, so buy generously at 0–3 months and more sparingly after.
What should my baby wear to sleep?
A sleepsuit with a sleeping bag over it, choosing the bag's tog for the room temperature. The Lullaby Trust has clear current guidance on dressing a baby for sleep: lullabytrust.org.uk/baby-safety/baby-product-information/dress-your-baby-for-sleep/
How do I wash baby sleepsuits and babygrows?
Machine wash at 30 or 40 and hang to dry. We don't recommend tumble drying: heat fades prints, softens the elastic at cuffs and necklines, and sets shrinkage into cotton permanently. Air dried, they hold their size, shape and colour long enough to pass down.
