Choosing a baby sun hat

A good sun hat shades the face, sits comfortably, and feels light enough to be forgotten. The baby sizes (0–24 months) have soft chin ties to hold the hat gently in place.

Finding the right size. Our sun hats are sized by age — 0–6 months, 6–12 months and so on — but head size varies more between babies than age alone suggests, so the size chart is the better guide. It shows you how to measure: a soft tape around the widest part of the head, just above the ears and eyebrows. Match that measurement to the chart and you'll know which age size to choose.

The fabric. GOTS certified organic cotton, soft from the first wear and softer with every wash. Light, breathable and gentle against new skin — great for delicate skin and for the environment.

The legionnaire sun hat is cut from swimwear fabric — quick-drying, and shaped to sit close to the head through a swim or an afternoon in the paddling pool. The neck flap shades the back of the neck, which a brim alone leaves open. It's the one to pack for a holiday.

A sun hat also makes an easy gift. Pair one with a pair of knitted booties or a muslin for a complete present.

What size sun hat does my baby need?

Our sun hats are sized by age — 0–6 months, 6–12 months and upwards. Head size varies between babies, so check the size chart: measure around the widest part of the head, just above the eyebrows and ears, and match it to the chart to find the right age size.

Do the baby sun hats have chin ties?

Yes — every baby size from 0–24 months has soft ties to hold the hat comfortably in place. The older kids' sizes are made without them.

What is a legionnaire sun hat?

A cap with a shaped flap that shades the neck and ears. The bonniemob legionnaire hat is made from swimwear fabric, so it sits close to the head and dries quickly — a sun hat and a baby swim hat in one.

How do I wash a baby sun hat?

Machine wash at 30 degrees and reshape while damp. We don't recommend tumble drying any bonniemob piece. Heat and tumbling break down the elastic in the fabric so it stops holding its shape, lifts the surface fibres so prints become dull and pilling starts. Air dried, the shape stays crisp and the colours stay true.

Are the sun hats organic cotton?
