Hats for every day of the year

A baby hat earns its place in the first months more than at any other time — keeping warmth in when it's cold and sun off when it isn't.

Ties on the baby sizes. Almost every bonniemob hat from 0–24 months has soft ties, and that includes the knitted beanies, not only the bonnets. It's a small piece of construction that will save many hours searching for a hat lost in a crib or stroller. It's what keeps a hat sitting where it should.

Natural fibres throughout. GOTS certified organic cotton, merino wool, or organic cotton blended with cashmere. Merino deserves singling out: the fibre is fine enough to sit softly against new skin, and it moves moisture rather than holding it, so it stays warm and comfortable through damp weather. Organic cotton is the cooler, lighter choice when the weather is warm. Both are lovely against delicate skin.

Lightweight jersey beanies are soft, unlined and stretchy — easy indoors as well as out. The knitted and lined styles are the ones for outside.

A hat makes a lovely small baby gift. Beautiful to unwrap, and useful from the first week. A hat with a pair of knitted booties, or with a muslin or teether makes a complete gift at a lower price.

Finding the right size. Hats are sized by age, but head size varies between babies more than age alone suggests. The size chart shows how to measure — a soft tape around the widest part of the head, just above the ears and eyebrows — so you can match the measurement to the right age size.
