We meet Kate Freud, Editor in Chief of Baby London & Little London Magazines

by The Bonniemob on May 25, 2017

Kate Freud, current Editor-in-Chief of Baby London and Little London magazines lives in Clapham with her husband Jack, who runs a PR agency, and her two children Jago, five and Georgia, two.

She says “It’s a lovely part of the capital to be in, just between Clapham and Wandsworth Common so, despite living in the city we feel like we’re surrounded by greenery!”.

Aside from Baby London and Little London, the lifestyle and childrenswear editor’s career spans titles including The Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph, Grazia, Red and My Baba. We caught up with Kate to find out more about her life in London and get her top tips for dressing little ones this spring…

YOU EDIT BABY LONDON AND LITTLE LONDON MAGAZINES, WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

I have a fantastic team who are great to work with, and I love that I am essentially editing a magazine that reflects my own life at the moment. I’m living and breathing babies and children at home and at work, but I love it!

BEING A CHILDRENSWEAR EDITOR AND A MUM, YOU MUST SEE SO MANY AMAZING THINGS TO DRESS YOUR LITTLE ONES IN. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE WHAT MAKES IT INTO THEIR WARDROBES?

I see some seriously beautiful clothes every day, but am always reluctant to spend a fortune on my own kid’s wardrobes when I know how little they wear them. So I choose things that look great but are not so precious that they they can’t enjoy getting muddy and climbing trees. I love my children to wear lots of colour and clothes that reflect their personalities.

AND DO THEY SELECT THEIR OWN OUTFITS DAY-TO-DAY?

My son is pretty laid-back about what he wears – within reason – but my two-year-old daughter is already becoming rather too opinionated about what she will and won’t put on! The secret I am discovering is to let her feel like she’s having a choice about what she wears, but making sure that whatever she chooses works together as an outfit! That way we are both happy!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT THE PIECES YOU CHOSE FROM THE BONNIE MOB’S SS17 COLLECTION?

The detailing is beautiful, they are good quality and a lot of thought has gone into what is going to keep parents and kids happy.

AND WHAT DO YOUR LITTLE ONES LOVE ABOUT THEM?

My son loved the retro, iron on badges that came with his hoodie, he thought that was very cool. And my daughter adores her jumper with the rainbow and star on it, all her favourite things!

HOW WILL YOU BE WEARING THEM THIS SPRING?

The jumpers are perfect for this time of year to take the kids from spring through to summer. I will be teaming Georgia’s rainbow jumper with bloomers and tights for a while longer and and Jago’s print trousers look fantastic teamed with colour block tees.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN FOLLOWING TRENDS FOR KIDS?

I love all the new trends for kids, but I think it’s great to add key pieces to a wardrobe of staples that suit your child. The main thing is to have fun with your kid’s clothes.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT THIS SEASON?

I can’t wait to peel all the layers off my kids and invest in their summer wardrobes. Lots of pretty jumpsuits and blouses for my daughter and bold shorts and slogan tees for my son.

AND FINALLY, TELL US ABOUT YOUR PERFECT SPRING DAY OUT WITH YOUR LITTLE ONES…

A picnic in one of London’s parks – Richmond Park or Clapham Common – with lots of friends and their kids, running free and getting some vitamin D!
