A changing bag is the one thing you carry every single day, so it may as well be a bag you actually like. Ours are chosen for the same reasons we choose everything else: they're beautifully made, they're built from recycled and responsible materials, and they're designed to last well past the nappy years.

There are backpacks for hands-free days, compact grab bags for the school run, roomy holdalls for weekends away, and totes that convert to backpacks when you'd rather not carry anything on one shoulder. Most come with a changing mat, insulated bottle pockets and stroller straps, and quite a few have a padded laptop sleeve — which is how so many of them quietly become work bags once the baby days are behind you. Mine did.

Choosing a changing bag

Think about how you want to carry it. A backpack keeps both hands free, which is the thing you appreciate most at a station or a soft play. A tote is quicker to reach into. A holdall carries a weekend. Some convert between the two.

Made from recycled materials. Recycled polyester and recycled linings, much of it from post-consumer plastic waste. Wipe-clean inside, which matters the first time a bottle leaks.

Changing mat, bottle sleeve, stroller straps. Most come with all three, so the bag hangs off the pushchair handles and everything has a place. The product page lists what is included.

They outlast the nappies. Several have a padded laptop sleeve, which is how a changing bag quietly becomes a work bag. Unisex enough that nobody argues over who is carrying it.

FAQ's

What should a changing bag hold?

Nappies, wipes, cream, a change of clothes, a muslin and a bottle. Most of these come with a changing mat and an insulated bottle sleeve so there is a place for each.

Backpack, tote or holdall?

A backpack keeps both hands free. A tote is easier to reach into. A holdall carries the most and suits nights away. Some convert between the two.

Do they attach to a pushchair?

Yes — stroller straps are included with most, so the bag can hang from the handles.

Can it be used after the baby stage?

That is rather the point. Several have a padded laptop sleeve and go on being used as work and weekend bags long afterwards.

How do I clean one?

Wipe the lining with a damp cloth. The linings are chosen to be wipe-clean, which is what you want after a leaked bottle.
