The bonnie mob has always been a knitwear brand first. These are the designers and makers we have brought in alongside it to make our FAMILY STORE — each brand hand picked by Bonniemob founder Tracey.
Baby sunglasses that bend, in bright vibrant colours. Tights knitted in France. Natural rubber teethers hand painted in Barcelona. Solid wood toys with mid-century lines. Colourful dungarees for busy kids, and beautiful eco acetate colour-rich sunglasses for mums.
Tiba + Marl
Changing bags, backpacks and buggy organisers from Lydia and Anna at Tiba + Marl. Recycled materials, quiet design and the sort of detail that only comes from making the same thing better every season: stroller straps, insulated bottle sleeves, padded changing mats and a laptop sleeve in the bigger bags.
I have known Lydia and Anna since they started, and our paths have crossed at more trade fairs than I can count. I love what they have built. I still carry my own Ozzy, which has been my laptop and work bag for years, long past the baby stage — and that, for me, is the whole point of a good bag.
Choose Elwood or Ozzy for a full day out, Riley or Nova when you want something neat on the shoulder, and Inka, Hiro or Axel when you would rather clip everything to the buggy and keep your hands free.
Dotty Dungarees
Kids dungarees in chunky corduroy, denim and cotton twill, in colours that lift a grey morning. A small British brand, cut for children on the move and sized from 6-12 months up to 9-10 years. Baby dungarees, dungaree dresses and dungaree shorts, with a lifetime guarantee on the buckles.
Zig and Star
Kids' shoes and boots from Ali McAleavy at Zig and Star. Podiatrist approved, shaped on the brand's own lasts, and built around a hidden midsole that lifts out to make room as feet grow — Ali calls it Good-To-Grow, and it is the reason one pair carries a child further up the size run.
I have known Ali for years and I love what she does. We have used her shoes on so many of our photoshoots that they have become part of how the bonniemob looks — the colours and the combinations sit beside the knitwear as though they were made for it. She spent nearly three years developing the first collection, working with UK last makers and a paediatric podiatrist, and you can feel that in the fit. Stocking Zig and Star was a very easy decision.
Jett is the one for first steps, barefoot-style and soft enough to bend with every stride. Astro is the t-bar, Atomic the double-strap school shoe, and Rockit the zip-up ankle boot. Infant sizes run EU 22 to 26, Junior EU 27 to 34, and Jett starts at EU 18.
Studio Roof
Some of the loveliest things in a child's room are the ones they helped make.
Studio Roof design 3D wall decorations in recycled card — flowers, birds, butterflies, beetles and creatures, in palettes that are bright and beautifully judged. Each one arrives flat and is pressed out and built by hand, which turns a wall decoration into an afternoon together at the kitchen table.
Studio Roof was started in 2005 by Romy and Ilya, with their three young children alongside them. The children are grown now and still involved, and the team is ten strong. Everything they make is recycled card, vegetable inks, and recyclable again at the end of its life. Designed in Holland.
They look beautiful on their own, and better in groups.
Smalls Merino
Merino base layers for children and women, in 17.5 micron ultrafine wool — warm without bulk, soft enough to sleep in, and the layer that goes under everything else on a ski trip. Tracey has known Emma, who founded Smalls, for many years: a fellow wool lover, and there is nothing she does not know about merino.
Oli & Carol
Natural rubber teething toys and bath toys shaped like fruit and veg, hand painted in Barcelona with natural dyes. Each one a single solid piece of Hevea rubber with no holes anywhere in the range. Baby teethers, teething rings and feeding bibs, in colours that sit beautifully beside the knits.
Candylab
Wooden toy cars with mid-century lines — a pizza van, a yellow taxi, a beach bus, a London double-decker. Solid wood from well-managed North American forests, retro shapes drawn with real confidence, and colour used just as boldly. Wooden kids toys for ages three and up, made to be handed on.
PlanToys
Wooden toys made in Thailand from rubberwood, the tree kept on after it has finished giving latex, put together with formaldehyde-free glue and coloured with organic pigments and water-based dyes.
A baby gym with a rocket and a planet to reach for, a xylophone, a drum, a lacing sheep, a stacking rocket, a first phone with a beaded dial. Simple shapes in soft colour, sturdy enough to be played with properly and handed on afterwards. Ages are on each product, starting from birth.
