Alyssa Garrison is the founder of one of our favourite colourful Canadian blogs: Random Acts of Pastel. She is also new mama to adorable Summer Honey Rose, who arrived in late January this year. A single mother by choice, Alyssa had the help of a donor to have baby Summer on her own. The pair live in Toronto with Mylk the dog and Coconut the cat.

We’re in love with Alyssa’s pastel-filled apartment (#HeaveninHighPark), so we knew that she would be creating something really amazing for Summer’s nursery. Alyssa tells us it was her favourite project during her pregnancy, and we’re excited to share with you a peek inside. Featuring some of the pieces we love most from the SS19 collection (including our organic cotton baby blankets), scroll down below to take a look...
COLOUR PALETTE & THEME
In case my blog name didn't make it clear, I adore pastel colours! I didn't find out my baby's gender until the day she was born, but I was determined to have a pastel and pink filled nursery regardless of sex. Pink is for everyone!
I've always been a fan of Disney and dreaming big, so the loose theme of the room was something like ‘anything is possible’. There's a pastel sky with shooting stars on the ceiling, a mobile that features flying horses and narwhals, a vintage unicorn mirror – the list of magical elements goes on and on!
The big furniture centrepiece in this room is definitely the golden crib from Babyletto, which Summer LOVES hanging out in because she can gaze at the sparkly bars to keep occupied. The Nursery Works rocker was also a special piece that I was dying to have for snuggle sessions, and it really helps make the room more cosy.
The chandelier in this room was one of the first pieces I got, with the help of Autumn at Make Moves Vintage. I told her I wanted something celestial that was fit for a starry sky, and she came through with the most perfect vintage find! My two painter friends added the ceiling mural after we had hung the light fixture and the two elements go together so well.

I keep as much as I can tucked away to keep the room tidy, so all of the drawers in our big dresser (which is also conveniently the change table) really helps us stay organised.
I have so many wonderful friends in the art world, so getting Summer her own little collection of artwork was a big deal for me. I held off on most of the decorating until I had collected enough art! Most of the pieces are by local Toronto artists that I admire, but a couple are custom, like the crystal by Johanna Martin and the ‘You've got Magic in You’ print by Jen Ilett. Some of the art is from my own childhood nursery too! After all of that was framed and ready to go I added smaller pieces from my travels over the years, like pom poms from Mexico!
BOOKS & TOYS
I'm a big book reader, so a well-stocked library was one of my very top priorities. It might be a bit early, but I'm already choosing a book each night from the shelf to read before bedtime. Some of our favourite titles came from Flying Eye Books – the illustrations are absolutely incredible and the stories have such amazing facts and lessons included in every page.

I haven't gone crazy with toys just yet because I feel like those are more fun when your child is big enough to pick toys for themselves from a shop. I stuck to simple must-haves for now, like wooden blocks and an avocado teether. I did however splurge on the Scandiborn felt ball pit – it's SO cute, and it can help kids learn to stand in a safe space with a bit of extra support!
