Who are Studio Roof?
A Dutch design studio, started in 2005 by Romy and Ilya with their three young children alongside them. The children are grown now and still involved, the team is ten strong, and they have had their own shop in Amsterdam since 2023. Everything they make is 3D decoration in recycled card — flowers, garden birds, paradise birds, butterflies, beetles, sea creatures and wild animals.
Why did the bonniemob choose them?
The design hand and the colour, and the fact that you have to build them. A decoration you assembled together at the kitchen table means more on the wall than one that arrived finished.
Do I have to assemble them myself?
Yes, and it is the best part. Each piece arrives flat as printed shapes that press out and slot together. The Deluxe flower is 44 pieces; the smaller designs are between seven and twelve.
Can children help?
That is rather the point. It is an afternoon's work for a grown-up and a child together, and the finished thing goes straight on the wall. The Zoe Miller designs are marked from three years.
How are they hung?
A card tab on the back hooks over a picture hook or a pin. They weigh almost nothing, so nothing needs drilling.
How big are they?
It varies by piece and the size is given on every product page. The Deluxe flower is 41 x 11 x 41 cm, and the 11 cm depth is what makes it stand off the wall and cast a shadow.
What are they made from?
Recycled card, printed with vegetable inks, and recyclable at the end of their life.
Do they work in groups?
Beautifully. One on its own above a cot or a bed, or three or four together across a wall in different sizes.
Do they make a good gift?
A thoughtful one, because the person opening it gets an afternoon out of it as well as the decoration. Add a gift box with a handwritten card at checkout.
